8 best mattress recommendations for lofts
I did quite a bit of research on mattresses before deciding which one I wanted for my loft. Besides height, I found a few key things to be critical when choosing a mattress. Material, firmness options, and durability. Oh and does it come in a box? All of these do except the Saatva. Allow me to save your facebook side bars and youtube ads from endless mattress company bombardment and just get down to the nitty gritty. This is my extremely brief and narrowed down list of quality, low profile mattress options potentially suitable for a loft. I am by no means a mattress reviewer, so after you find your favorites, I suggest watching a few real mattress reviews on youtube to get a good feel for its specific features. But I think many new tiny housers get to this loft mattress dilemma eventually, and aren't sure where to begin their low profile mattress search. I hope this list narrows things down a bit for you.
Note: The price ranges reflect all of the mattress sizes available through each company, which is generally Twin to California King.

The Lull Mattress ($500-900)

Home of Wool ($702-$2331) - My next pick
3”, 5” or 7” high standard. They are also able to custom make anything to a preferred size.
100% wool with several options for the cover fabric material (the reason for the wide price range, aside from the difference in mattress size).
Environmentally conscious company that either donates their unused fabric scraps or uses them to create affordably priced mattresses which can also be found on their website.
No firmness options, but the company states that you can add or remove wool from the inside as needed.
Side note: This company also offers a wide range of other hand made wool products including pet beds, pillows and throws, nursery and pregnancy cushions, rugs, sheets, and more.
avocado green ($959-1699)
11” high + 2” for optional topper.
Hybrid (Latex, Organic Wool, and Coils).
They rate it a 6/10 on firmness. No firmness options.
Button tufted, non toxic organic materials, and a vegan option (cotton instead of wool).
Good edge support.
saatva zenhaven ($1299-$2499)
10” high
Organic wool top layer and 100% pure Talalay latex.
Flip-able, with one side being more plush and the other 18% more firm.
If you already have a mattress but are on the lookout for a new topper, I would suggest a latex topper by Sleep on Latex or a wool topper from Home of Wool. Latex and wool are really good for temperature regulation, much more so than memory foam or down. The Sleep on Latex toppers range in firmness levels and thicknesses from 1”-3" so it’s a great option if you just need a little extra comfort. Home of Wool is also able to custom make anything to size, making them an awesome option for unique tiny home situations.
I hope this helps narrow down your search! Happy mattress hunting!
